Here is what I put together for a friend's book, she's got a free copy through Lulu as a NaNo goodie, and even through her WIP isn't done, she's going to print the draft she's got so far.
 So she was hoping to have a pretty cover to put on the shiny front, so I was able to come up with this... using mostly Photoshop CS3, and some lettering I had previously figured out.
 Because she had unusual dragons featured in her book, she wanted a drawing of them on the front... but her art skills are limited. So I took two sketches she had made, composited them into one, retaining the best parts from each, and then superimposed them onto a piece of burnt parchment photomanip'd from

 My thought was it might look like it was the only thing that had survived from an old manuscript about dragons.
